About this course
Learn to understand the horse through its posture, movement, nervous system, and natural rhythms.
An online foundation course with Shea Stewart
For many years, my goal in horsemanship was simple: to better understand the horse.
That journey led me through years of training horses, studying biomechanics, professionally fitting saddles, and eventually into the world of Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy. Along the way, I realized that many physical, behavioral, and performance issues are connected in ways we often overlook.
Every horse is communicating through its body.
When we learn to observe posture, movement, tissue quality, facial expression, and the subtle rhythms within the nervous system, we begin to understand what the horse has been trying to tell us long before obvious symptoms appear.
This course is designed to teach you how to recognize those patterns and develop the hands to support the horse's own capacity for healing.
Whether you are a horse owner, trainer, bodyworker, saddle fitter, farrier, or veterinarian, you'll gain a deeper understanding of the horse that will influence every interaction you have.
Why Biodynamic Craniosacral?
The craniosacral system consists of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround the brain and spinal cord. Through its connection with the nervous system, it influences every tissue of the body.
Unlike therapies that focus primarily on muscles or joints, craniosacral work helps us assess restrictions within this system using gentle, specific contacts.
Rather than forcing change, we learn to recognize the body's natural rhythms and support the horse's own ability to reorganize.
As balance returns, it is common to see changes in posture, movement, relaxation, facial symmetry, and overall ease within the body.
One of the greatest lessons horses have taught me is that they are remarkably capable of healing when we learn to listen instead of trying to fix.
Why I Created This Course
When I began studying craniosacral therapy in 2007, I quickly realized this work was changing more than the horses I worked with, it was changing how I saw them.
Over the years, I continued my education through advanced Biodynamic Craniosacral training, anatomy and dissection studies, biomechanics, horsemanship, and clinical practice. Each discipline contributed another piece to understanding how the horse functions as an integrated whole.
As students began asking where they could learn this work, I realized there were very few comprehensive equine craniosacral programs available, particularly ones grounded in biodynamic principles.
I created this course to share not only the techniques I use, but the way I observe, assess, and think about the horse.
My Background
Horses have been part of my life since childhood.
Before dedicating my work to craniosacral therapy, I spent more than fifteen years as a horsemanship trainer and clinician. Those years taught me how to communicate with the horse through feel, timing, and observation, lessons that continue to shape everything I do today.
For more than twenty-five years, I have worked full-time with horses through clinical practice, and since 2009 I have professionally fitted saddles. My education continues through advanced Biodynamic Craniosacral studies, anatomy, dissections, biomechanics, and ongoing professional development.
I believe the best teachers never stop being students. Every horse deepens my understanding of this work.
Who This Course Is For
This course was created for anyone who wants to understand horses on a deeper level.
It is especially valuable for:
- Horse owners wanting to confidently support their own horses
- Trainers looking beyond behavior to understand the physical causes behind performance challenges
- Saddle fitters, bodyworkers, massage therapists, chiropractors, veterinarians, and hoof-care professionals wishing to integrate nervous system awareness into their work
- Anyone interested in learning Equine Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy from the ground up
No previous bodywork experience is necessary.
What You'll Learn
Throughout the course you'll develop both practical skills and a new way of observing horses.
Topics include:
- The history and evolution of craniosacral therapy
- Biodynamic principles and the body's inherent ordering forces
- Anatomy of the craniosacral system
- The documented craniosacral rhythms and why they reflect health within the system
- Whole-body assessment of posture, movement, and symmetry
- Tissue palpation and recognizing restrictions
- A complete craniosacral protocol
- Additional contacts for specific regions of the body
- Recognizing tissue releases and postural reorganization
- Developing your own intuitive observation skills
- Self-regulation and practitioner presence
By the end of the course, you'll have a solid foundation for safely working with horses while understanding not only how to perform the contacts, but why they matter.
Exclusive 3D Learning Experience
The craniosacral system can be difficult to visualize.
To help students truly understand these concepts, I worked with medical animators to create custom 3D animations demonstrating the documented craniosacral rhythms within the equine body.
These animations are unique to this course and make complex anatomy much easier to understand.
Learn at Your Own Pace
The online format allows you to study whenever it fits your schedule.
Your enrollment includes:
- 30 video lessons
- Detailed demonstrations
- Downloadable workbook
- Lifetime course access
- Certificate of completion after passing the exam and submitting two case studies
- Lifetime access to the private student Facebook community
Because learning happens through repetition, you can revisit the material as often as needed while building confidence with your hands.
Continued Support
One of the things I enjoy most is watching students grow long after they finish the course.
Every student is invited into my private Facebook community, where I regularly answer questions, discuss cases, and host live Zoom Q&A sessions.
Learning craniosacral isn't simply about memorizing techniques. It is an ongoing process of refining your observation, your palpation, and your understanding of the horse. The community allows that learning to continue long after the final lesson.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need previous bodywork experience? No. This course was designed for horse owners and professionals alike and begins with the fundamentals.
How long do I have access? You'll have unlimited lifetime access.
Will I receive a certificate? Yes. After completing the course, passing the exam, and submitting two case studies, you'll receive a Certificate of Completion.
Will I have support during the course? Yes. You'll have lifetime access to the private student Facebook group, where I answer questions and host live Zoom Q&A sessions.
A Final Thought
One of the greatest gifts horses have given me is learning to slow down and truly observe.
The more time I've spent studying anatomy, biomechanics, craniosacral therapy, and horsemanship, the more I've realized that no single discipline holds all the answers. Every horse reminds me to stay curious, to continue learning, and to trust what thoughtful observation can reveal.
My hope is that this course gives you more than a new skill. I hope it changes the way you see the horse standing in front of you.
I look forward to sharing this journey with you.

Shea is a certified Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist with over 25 years of experience in equine bodywork, having studied with leading educators in the field including Ryan Hallford, Michael Shea, Ian Wright, and Hugh Milne. Her journey began as a horsemanship trainer and coach, and her work has always honored the horse as a whole, in mind, body, and spirit. Today she weaves decades of hands-on practice into a distinctive blend of biodynamic and biomechanical understanding, reflected in the curriculum she teaches here.
Student reviews
- Munich, Germany
Your online course is very intense and super interesting and I have learned very much. Now I'm looking in a different way at any horse and see more things you did teach me to see. And horses look in a different way at me and they like to stand beside me more relaxed and in a way thankful. My own horse touched me softly with her lips at my hand, to ask for a treatment. As a barefoot hoof trimmer for 31 years, I'm specialized in bringing horses back to soundness without shoes.

Shea, the class was fantastic on so many levels. I am still processing from a few weeks ago. It has definitely changed me in a way I didn't suspect . . I can't wait for more!
